A coffee morning has raised a staggering £1,200 for homeless people in Nepal.

Held at Weatherhill Farm, Burshill, near Bransdesburton, the cake stall alone raised £232. There was also a raffle and tombola.

Organiser Ian Banks said: “It shows there’s support and that people are generous because of the cause.”

He added: “The money will go into a special fund and be used to construct a demonstration earthquake resistant house in a remote part of Nepal where up to 90 per cent of homes were rendered uninhabitable by April’s earthquake.”

Anyone who would like to contribute to the fund is invited to contact Ian on (01262) 468237 or Dave on 07841 627863 or email, or visit
