BRIDLINGTON student Christian Benson joined the Bridlington Free Press team for a week’s work experience to find out what life is like as a local reporter.
Christian, 15, who lives in Bridlington and attends St Augustine’s School in Scarborough, spent time with the paper’s news team and our staff photographer.
He said: “I don’t know precisely what occupation I want to take in later life, but I do know I will be writing – what expression that will be in, I am yet to find out.
“I am extremely grateful for my time here, I understand that the paper had to make time and effort to accommodate me, which isn’t always in surplus quantities in a news office!
“As part of my experience, I spent time shadowing the photographer, inputting letters, attending court, writing reports for the leisure section and doing some writing in the more prominent articles/stories.
“All of which, I believe, have given me a much more defined insight into the world of journalism and what it takes to accommodate the healthy variety of people and personalities of the town into ‘their’ local newspaper.
“It has proved to be a valuable experience with which I can take with me to wherever I may end up and so, for that, I am most grateful to all the staff of the Free Press for allocating me with a much sought-after experience with friendliness and professionalism.”
