A Bridlington businessman who was assaulted while on a night out in Scarborough last week is still in a critical condition at Hull Royal Infirmary.

Ian Brodie was celebrating his 50th birthday when he was attacked on Somerset Terrace in Scarborough on Saturday, April 27, at around 11pm.

Mr Brodie owns the The Cobblers shop on Chapel Street, Bridlington.

Ryan Dayle Tranmer, 22, of Thornton Road, Bridlington, has been charged with inflicting greivous bodily harm.

He denied the charge at a hearing at Scarborough Magistrates Court last week and was remanded in custody until his next hearinig.

He was expected to appear in court again yesterday, Wednesday May 8.
