All eyes will be on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they tie the knot this Saturday – but Lorna Blanchard and Nick Andrew will be concentrating on their own wedding day.
They arranged their ceremony for May 19 at Bridlington Town Hall and then came the Royal announcement.
“People keep asking why we chose the same day but we have had ours booked for more than a year,” said Lorna.
“We went for May 19 because it is Nick’s birthday on the Monday afterwards, it is my mum and dad’s wedding anniversary on the 17th, and it is my mum’s birthday in May too.”
Hundreds of people from around the world have been invited to Windsor Castle for the Royals’ big day, but capacity at Bridlington Town Hall is limited to 35.
The couple live in Hornsea but are marrying in Bridlington at 11am, one hour before the Royal occasion.
“There is no registry office in Hornsea and Bridlington has nicer, bigger gardens than Beverley, plus we wanted to stay near the seaside,” said Lorna.
While the Queen is hosting a reception for 800 guests at St George’s Hall in Windsor in the afternoon, Lorna, Nick and their guests will be enjoying a smaller reception at Hornsea Indoor Bowls Club.
And they said their guests are more concerned about their big day clashing with the FA Cup final, rather than having to miss watching Harry and Meghan’s celebrations on TV.
