It has proved to be something of a saga, with no information for almost 18 months.
But Aldi has told the Free Press this week that it still plans to build a second branch in Bridlington – and it will be open for business next year.
Despite rumours on social media that the store in St John Street would never become a reality, the supermarket chain has confirmed work will start in 2018.
An Aldi spokesperson said: “We are planning to start the construction of our Bridlington store later this year and will open it next year.”
Plans for the new store were first announced more than three years with the promise of more than 30 jobs. Planning permission was granted in the summer of 2015, but by late the following year, everything had ground to a halt.
