The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) South and East Yorkshire Regional Committee has announced the death of its secretary Margaret Flower, following a bravely-fought battle against cancer.
She will be greatly missed by her many friends and colleagues, and her contribution to the work of the FSB in the region will be irreplaceable.
Margaret has served the FSB assiduously for many years in the roles of secretary to both the South Yorkshire branch and the South and East Yorkshire region.
Her attentiveness to duty has made the jobs of fellow officers and the administration of the branch and region much easier.
Her duties as secretary were often cumbersome and onerous, but the exuberance and optimism with which she carried them out was a tribute to her indomitable spirit.
FSB Regional Chairman Gordon Millward said: “Margaret has been a long-serving, devoted servant of the FSB. When the chips are down, Margaret has always been the first to point to solutions to the pressing problems of running a large and effective regional operation.
“Even throughout her own illness she found the drive to ensure the regional wheels kept turning. So keen was she to ensure ‘business as usual’ that in May we published in the FSB weekly e-newsletter an article about Margaret finding the energy to type up the minutes from the Regional Committee meeting whilst in hospital undergoing chemotherapy.
“In her typical attitude of commitment, she reported that typing up the minutes was an effective way of filling the long days of medical treatment and it had a strangely regenerative effect. Such was her dedication to the FSB.
“Every organisation needs its motive power and Margaret was surely ours.
“We will miss her greatly.”
Margaret’s funeral will be held at 3.30pm on Tuesday (Sep 8) at Grenoside Crematorium, Sheffield.
