EASTFIELD Garden Centre has been commended for the quality of its cafe and coffee bar after reaching the finals of a national awards scheme.
The garden centre’s Autumn Bliss coffee bar, which was opened in April 2009, and Potting Shed café, which has been open at the centre since 1998, have been shortlisted in the Best Catering Facilities category of the Garden Retail Awards 2012, which highlight the best of the garden retail industy.
Joan Stephenson from Eastfield Garden Centre said: “This is the first time we have entered the Garden Retail Awards so we are delighted to have reached the national finals. It is also a valuable external recognition of the commitment and dedication of our team.”
The Eastfield entry outlined how customer numbers have increased substantially after the garden centre implemented a range of new initiatives.
These included introducing international dishes alongside its traditional offerings, changing their menus every season, launching a range of offers and using local suppliers where possible.
They have also been commended for carrying out a sustained staff training and development programme for its 34 catering staff.
Eastfield will find out whether it has gained the national award at an awards dinner and presentation at the Grosvenor House hotel in Park Lane, London, on November 7.
