A miniature golf course created by experts who previously designed projects for Disneyland and Alton Towers is set to open as Bridlington’s newest tourist attraction.

Treasure Island, on the site of the former Cavern Club in Esplanade, will host its grand opening ceremony on Saturday 12 April, celebrating nearly half a year’s worth of hard work.

Reece Holland, 26, who owns the business, said: “We wanted to bring something new to the town. We did decide to do it last year but we were waiting on the people who designed for Disney.

“We are very pleased with the mini golf course. The work was expensive but it is worth every penny. We have had lots of compliments from other businesses.

“It is something different for the town and when tourists come here we want to give them something different. It is great for Bridlington.”

The pirate themed 10-hole course cost just under £400,000 to build and also features a spine-tingling walk round ghost train upstairs. The new venue can also be hired out for children’s parties, with several bookings already made.

A total of five new jobs have been created at Treasure Island, a figure which Reece expects will increase over the summer season.

“I would like to thank everyone that helped us with the project,” said Reece, whose family has worked in the leisure industry for over 200 years.

Reece’s girlfriend, Molly Butters, 19, has helped him with the business, and said: “It will be a really fun day out and a fun attraction in Bridlington which I think is needed. It is shutting down the club and bringing something great for families to do.

“It has been quite difficult getting it all together but we are putting the finishing touches to it now. It has been long hours and hard work but it is definitely worth the effort.”

The Mayor of Bridlington Terry Dixon will officially open the mini golf course on Saturday 12 April at 10.30am.
