A BRIDLINGTON mum is hoping her homely recipe will win through in a new cookery show on ITV.
Donna Morriss, of Nelson Street, Bridlington, appeared on There’s No Taste Like Home, which features Italian celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo and sees contestants cook dishes that have been handed down to them through their family.
Donna, mum of Digby, 16 and Dylan, 12, was filmed at home cooking a dish of monkfish with pernod and cream sauce served with herby mashed potato and asparagus with bacon - a recipe originally passed down by her great gran but brought up to date by Donna.
Along with other contestants Lisa Stanton and Sophie Leggard, from North Yorkshire, Donna met Gino and cooked her dish for specially selected customers at the Estbek House restaurant in Sandsend.
“It is a really nice dish that my great gran used to cook every Friday at her house on Hilderthorpe Road,” said Donna, who works for Ocean Rewards fishmongers on Hilderthorpe Road.
“It was a great experience to go and cook my dish and it turned out really well. Hopefully if people see it they might want to come in and try monkfish and cook it themselves.”
After the cook-off, Gino picked a winner from the three, although the victor will remain secret until the show is broadcast, and their dish will be included on the Estbek House menu for a month following. The episode of There’s No Place Like Home featuring Donna will be broadcast on ITV1 on October 17.
