ANYONE born in Bridlington who celebrates their birthday on December 12 is invited to take part in a unique launch of the Bridlington all weather lifeboat.
The Marine Engineer lifeboat carries the number ‘12-12’ on the hull of the boat, which is the way the RNLI number boats in their fleet.
The first ‘12’ refers to the boats length which is twelve metres, and the second ‘12’ is the number in its class. At 12.12pm on the December 12, 2012 the lifeboat will launch from the south beach, and the crew are encouraging anyone with a birthday that day to go along and be a part of the launch.
Steve Kinroy, Bridlington’s Lifeboat Operations Manager, thought of the unique idea and said: “Lifeboat 12-12 launching at 12.12pm on the 12th of the 12th 2012 could only happen once in a lifetime and would be something for the crew and town to remember.”
Anyone born in Bridlington with a birthday on that day are invited by the coxswain and crew of the Marine Engineer to watch the launch and join them in some festive fayre on their birthday. A photograph of themselves with the boat and crew will be a reminder of the day.
A spokesman from the station’s management group said “We will be running a festive raffle and all will be welcome to watch the boat launch and have a chance to win an early Christmas present and in doing so you will be helping to support the RNLI.
“So please remember 12-12 at 12.12 on 12.12 in 2012”.
If you would like to share your birthday with the lifeboat crew please ring the boathouse on 01262 672450. You can follow Bridlington Lifeboat on Twitter and Facebook.
