A Bridlington artist will take her first step into the London art scene after being asked to exhibit her work in an Islington gallery.
Leanne Broadbent, 30, of St John’s Road, has been busy preparing works to be displayed in a group exhibition with a comic book theme.
Her work draws on childhood memories and literature, taking stock of the more sinister themes in children’s fiction from an adult perspective.
Leanne said she also takes inspiration from Bridlington, venturing out into the town to study people and places including the sea front fairground.
She said: “I am absolutely ecstatic about the exhibition because Islington is really contemporary in terms of being a young, vibrant area.
“I have been having such fun creating all new works for it and it is making me stretch my creative muscles and thinking about making work for a whole different audience.
“I really hope it will further my career and the gallery have said they would like to represent until January as they take on young , emerging artists,” said Leanne who studied fine art at the University of Hull, Scarborough Campus.
The exhibition will run from Wednesday 14 August to Friday 16 August at The Daniel Libeskind Space, Holloway Road, Islington.
