Art comes to Bridlington market

This Saturday sees the launch of Art on the Market, an extension of Bridlington’s popular Saturday market in King’s Street.

Members of Bridlington Art Society will be displaying their work for everyone to see, with the help of specially adapted stalls provided by the council. With more to look at - and more seating recently installed - it’s hoped that visitors will enjoy spending more time at the market.

There will be a wide range of art on show, from local scenes and cartoons to flowers, portraits and abstract paintings.

Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economic development, tourism and rural issues at East Riding of Yorkshire

Council, said: “This is an excellent example of the local community and the council working together to promote Bridlington and the wider East

Riding in terms of culture and tourism.

“I would urge residents and visitors alike to visit Bridlington market on Saturday to view the selection of art on display and to support their

local market, especially with the Love Your Local Market Campaign taking place from 15-29 May.”

Bridlington Art Society was established in 1949 and has a long tradition of exhibiting in the town. The annual show is held at The Spa

Bridlington, but members also hold outdoor exhibitions on Sundays on North Promenade.

The market will now provide a great opportunity for artists to display their talents right in the heart of the town.
