TV gardener is appointed

A GARDENER whose work has been seen by millions of TV viewers has been appointed general plant manager at a Bridlington Garden Centre.

Gavin Charter spent three years working at Barnsdale Gardens, in Rutland, where he began as garden supervisor and later became head gardener.

The gardens were shown every week to viewers of BBC Gardeners’ World during the 1990s in the famous programme fronted by the late Geoff Hamilton, the worlds longest-serving gardening presenter.

The programme following and helped make Geoff Hamilton a household name.

Gavin’s gardening career which started 22 years ago with a Driffield landscaping company.

He gained an HND in horticulture at Askham Bryan College, York and then a BSc in land management and technology.

Gavin, who lives in Hunmanby, joins Eastfield Garden Centre after 10 years with a Scarborough garden centre.
