LOCAL artists and photographers have come together to highlight the natural beauty of Bridlington and the East Yorkshire coastline with a series of events as part of Bridlington Arts Festival.

The Coast project, organised by Jean Illingworth, features a number of events to present Bridlington residents with a snapshot of our wonderful coastline.

Jean’s work, along with work from Bridlington photographer Trish Watson and RSPB photographer Steve Race, Beverley papier-mache sculptor Nicky Clacy, Driffield’s Helga Princz and Walkington’s Lynne Wilson will feature in the free exhibition ‘Coastal Images - Jean Illingworth and Friends’ from Monday May 23 to Sunday June 5.

Opening times are 10am-6pm, Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday.

As well as this exhibition, the BIG beach picture, created by local school children under the guidance of local felt-maker Lynne Henderson, will be on display.

Local school children also entered a photography competition. The under 11 category winner was nine-year-old Samantha Kershaw, of Hilderthorpe Primary School, with her photo of donkeys on Bridlington South Beach called ‘Happy Families’.

The over 11’s winner was 16-year-old Philippa Chloe Platten, of Hornsea Secondary School, with her artist picture of beach pebbles at Hornsea called ‘Natural Formations’. Both girls’ pictures will feature in the ‘Coastal Images’ exhibition.”

Jean Illingworth will be holding a non-technical photography workshop at Bridlington Spa called ‘Photographing the Coast’, focusing on composition, inspiration and passion, not camera settings, on Monday May 30; the cost is £30 including a light lunch.

There is also something for music fans, with the Coast Concert, which is an Acoustic@TheSpa evening on Friday June 3 starting at 6.30pm, in the candle lit Harbour Suite.

Boo Hewerdine is headlining, supported by David Swann and Hissyfit, while other local artists will perform songs on a Coast Theme before an interval when supper will be served.
