Caroline will take on the post in September 2021, for an initial term of office of three years, and succeeds current chair Sharon Mays.

Caroline has a wealth of experience from her 22 year-long career in politics as a Labour MP, from 1997 until 2019.

Since leaving politics, Caroline has held the role of chair of the Institute for Prosperity Advisory Board; is a Board Advisor to Hawthorn; an Associate for Global Partners Governance, and is a media commentator on news and current affairs.

Caroline said: “I am delighted to be appointed to the role of chair. I look forward to working with staff, the Council of Governors, the trust board and our partners to ensure that the trust continues to make a positive difference to our patients, service users and their families.”

Sharon Mays, trust chair at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust said: “I would like to welcome Caroline to the trust and I look forward to working with her through a period of transition. It has been an honour to lead the board over the last seven years and I am pleased to be handing over a successful and thriving organisation to the new chair.”
