These latest figures do not give the whole picture of deaths related to the virus in the community as they do not include those who have passed away in care homes or at home.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is releasing details of all deaths related to the virus after they have been registered.

The latest ONS figures, published on May 19, showed there have been 24 cases of coronavirus-related deaths outside hospitals in Scarborough, up to May 8, 21 in care homes, two at home and one in a hospice.

The ONS said the numbers are based on where Covid-19 is mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, including if it is suspected, or in combination with other health conditions.

The ONS release shows up to May 8, 64 total deaths related to coronavirus were recorded in the local authority of Scarborough, 40 of which took place in hospital.

Up to the week ending May 17, the total number of coronavirus patients discharged following treatment from York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust hospitals was 409.

Scarborough Hospital continues to care for patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 coronavirus on Lilac and Maple wards which were set up as an isolation ward at the start of the outbreak so that patients can be kept isolated from others to minimise the risk to patients and staff and prevent the spread of the virus.
