Some youngsters at Bridlington’s Quay Academy have been sent home for a couple of weeks after a pupil in year three tested positive for Covid-19.

“A deep clean of the zone and clasrooms that the group has been based in is also taking place as a further precautionary measure.

“In the meantime, we will revert to providing virtual learning for all pupils while they are at home, so they can continue their learning if they feel well enough to do so.”

Quay Academy remains open for all other year groups.

“The safety and wellbeing of our children and staff is our number one priority at this time,” Mrs Broadhead added.

“We appreciate this is an unsettling time for everyone and we thank you for your support.”

Businesses in the town are also being affected by the virus.

The Queen’s Hotel in Bridlington is closed until further notice after a customer who was on the premises on Saturday at around 8pm has since received a positive result from a Covid-19 test, although they have not displayed any symptoms.

The hotel, on High Street, says it will do everything necessary to protect its customers and staff and added: “We will see you all again soon.”

The Hook and Parrot pub on Marlborough Terrace has also closed for a deep clean and to get staff members tested after being informed by a customer who was on the premises on Thursday, that they had received an email to say they had tested positive for Covid-19.

The pub is due to reopen tomorrow (Wed).

“Our customers’ safety is our priority,” they said, “and we will be contacting everyone that visited the premises on Thursday through our track and trace records and also via social media.”
