Rev Richard Townend started the JustGiving page entitled ‘From Brid With Love’ because he believes that the jabs should be available to all regardless of where they live.

He has set himself a target of £2,000 and has already reached the half-way point.

So far the JustGiving page has accrued more than £1,100 with 33 contributions to the drive for Gavi.

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, helps vaccinate almost half the world’s children against deadly and debilitating infectious diseases.

The Alliance is currently working with countries to support Covid-19 response and to maintain and restore routine immunisation while co-leading global efforts on equitable access to coronavirus vaccines.

Rev Townend said: “The motivation for running this campaign is that a lot of residents I am talking to have this slight unease people in low income countries are not going to get a vaccine any time soon, yet we get ours free of charge very quickly. People really want to do something about this situation.

“This JustGiving page is an obvious and easy way for people to give something back.

“The reason I have called it ‘From Bridlington with Love’ is this will be our gift to the world.

“Even though it’s a small amount, a drop in the ocean, coming from a coastal town we all know how large an ocean can be and this campaign is part of that.”

The Astra-Zeneca vaccine costs between £5 and £10 for two doses.

Would you consider donating to enable someone, somewhere else in the world, to have the vaccine?
