The ONS said the numbers are based on where Covid-19 is mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, including if it is suspected, or in combination with other health conditions.

Today's ONS release shows up to May 15, 72 total deaths related to coronavirus were recorded in the local authority of Scarborough, 45 of which took place in hospital, 22 in care homes, three at home and two in a hospice.

However, NHS England have already confirmed that more deaths have occurred in Scarborough Hospital after May 15.

As of 5pm on May 25, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Scarborough Hospital, has reported a total of 201 deaths in patients who had tested positive for Covid-19, 77 of which have so far been confirmed to have happened in Scarborough.

The difference is because the ONS figures include all mentions of Covid-19 on a death certificate - including suspected cases of the virus, whereas the NHS figures only include deaths which have occurred in hospitals that have tested positive.
