The store is one of various others Weird Fish is re-opening, including its Street, Newquay and Weymouth stores, following recent Government advice which allows non-essential retailers to re-open.

Following several months of background work, Weird Fish has developed a detailed plan to ensure the health and safety of all shoppers and staff, with ongoing work continuing over the coming months to ensure all measures align with the latest advice and work in practice.

John Stockton, managing director at Weird Fish said: “We have been closely monitoring guidelines from the Government and British Retail Consortium over the past months, and our staff have been doing extensive detailed planning to prepare for the reopening of our stores – while also working hard during an incredibly busy trading period. We are gradually opening stores as part of a phased approach, while we trial our new health and safety measures and keep a close eye on store operations.”

Weird Fish’s plan includes risk assessments ahead of opening to review the Scarborough store and highlight any potential issues. In line with social distancing rules, the store will have a grid mechanism in place, where vinyl floor tape will divide the shop into dedicated areas to help with staff and customer spacing. Floor stands will also be removed or repositioned to help customer flow, with clear signage emphasising the two-metre social distancing rule.

The number of customers allowed into the store will be restricted, with dedicated staff members monitoring customer numbers and reinforcing social distancing rules, as well as actively encouraging customers to shop alone.

A strict rota will also be in place to ensure frequent, thorough cleaning, with hand sanitising areas available for both staff and the public in store. In addition, all returned products will be quarantined and undergo extensive cleaning.

“Our highest priority is ensuring that our customers feel safe when they shop with us and increasing health and safety measures is key to achieving this. We’re looking forward to welcoming back our loyal shoal and giving them the shopping experience they know and love at Weird Fish, with our new safety measures in place,,” said Stockton.

Weird Fish, Scarborough, is now open between 10am to 4pm, Mondays to Saturdays, and 11am to 4pm on Sundays.
