Later this month the grounds of the house will host the annual Nostalgia Weekend Rally.

This year, for the first time, the house itself is also being opened up for a working display of model train sets.

Visitors will be able to go into the house’s library to see the antique train sets dating from the 1920s.

The sets are owned by members of the Hornby Railway Collectors Association, Phil and David Rounce, Chris Ness and Nick Beilby.

Sir Tatton Sykes, who recalls playing with a similar train set as a child, said: “It is a long time since I have seen a train set like this and I will be delighted to see them running in the library.”

The Nostalgia Weekend Rally is brought to Sledmere House by the North East Club for Pre-war Austins on Sunday, June 26.

Visitors to the event can also expect to see over 400 classic cars dating from the 1900s to 1990s, a 1930s London bus, displays from the Yorkshire Wolds Railway Restoration Project and The Nostalgia Re-enactment Group.

There will also be music from Peter Baker of Decade Music, The ‘40s Dancing Chums and Northern Soul.
