A BRIDLINGTON singer-songwriter is only one step from the national final of a prestigious music competition.

Laura Bancroft will travel to the Willows in Salford, Manchester, to compete in the North West final of Live And Unsigned this Sunday, after coming through the recent regional finals.

Live And Unsigned is the biggest original music competition in the UK for unsigned bands and artists, attracting over 50,000 entries in the past five years.

Laura now has the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of spectators and a professional judging panel, including judges from Kerrang, NME Radio and Radio One.

Laura said: “I was kept in the competition last time through the wildcard vote where people voted for me via a text number, so I would like to say thank you to all those who voted.

“I’ve got my fingers crossed for the event, I think it’s going to be a great day and I just want to go as far as I can in the competition.

“Going through as the wildcard entry has given me more confidence in my ability as people have had to make the effort to vote for me.”

If Laura comes through the semi-final in Manchester, she will go forward to the main final at the 02 Arena in London, where she will compete for main prizes which include a management and development contract with Future Music, and a world tour taking in locations including Australia, Asia, Canada and Europe.

She said: “I taught myself to play the guitar around a year ago.

“I gained confidence when I worked at Camp Interlaken last summer in Wisconsin, USA. I worked as the waterfront director but was also able to play guitar every day and was surrounded by skilled guitar players who taught me a lot.

“I am studying to be a primary school teacher in Hull currently, where I also play gigs.

“I can be found on Facebook under the name Laura R Bancroft, where people can find out more about my up-coming performances.

“Anyone can come and see me play at the weekend and it would be great to have support from Bridlington. Tickets for the performances can be bought from me, but are also available on the door, for £7.50 each. The performance starts at noon and lasts for a couple of hours.”

Laura will also be appearing at the Pavilion Bar for its Sunday evening acoustic shows, on May 15.
