A NEW Bridlington business is hoping to “put the smile back on Bridlington faces”.

It’s A Joke, at 4 Princess Terrace, opened earlier in the summer selling jokes, fancy dress, magic and novelty items – after a three year refurbishment job.

Ian Taylor, who is originally from Hull, took on the property three years ago and begin to work on the upstairs, where he and his family would live.

He then began to redevelop the bottom floor as the joke shop, and opened in June.

“When we bought the place it was a bit of an eyesore so we had a job on to try and turn it around,” said Ian.

“We have been working on it slowly and surely and we are hoping that we can start employing staff here once we become established.

“I see the stories about shops closing down here, people struggling to make ends meet with the high rents, so hopefully our shop can raise a few smiles.

“I love Bridlington, my kids go to Hilderthorpe School and I am a parent governor there, so it would be nice for business to keep improving in the town.”

Ian used to work in childcare while living in Hull, before he took on a chalet on South Beach before eventually buying his shop.

“We’ve had a few kids in here who said the stuff is ‘sick’, which I’m told means good,” Ian continued.

“We just enjoy putting the smiles back on a few faces.”
