AROUND 250 members of the National Youth Theatre descended on the beach at Selwick Bay, Flamborough, last week decked out in bright orange overalls, to launch a new environmental initiative.

It launched the SLICK environmental challenge fund – a collaboration between the theatre and the Peter De Haan Charitable Trust.

The fund is worth £100,000 towards £400,000-worth of projects, encouraging environmental groups to take practical action to protect freshwaters and seas.

National Youth Theatre members will also did their bit for the environment by taking part in a beach clean in Selwick Bay, and will hand out 1,500 SLICK branded bags for life at an environmental production held in Sheffield next week.

Anyone hoping to apply to the fund has until October 31 this year, and submissions can be made at www.ideastap.com/envirochallenge
