Dancin’ in line

THE latest top play to head to the Spotlight Theatre certainly never misses a step.

Dancin’ In Line, produced by Hull theatre company One Off Productions, comes to the Spotlight on Saturday May 21 at 7.30pm.

The show takes a look at the phenomenon of line dancing and the people who enjoy it.

Writer and director, Barrie Wheatley, came up with the idea for the play while visiting a club in Driffield which had put on a line dancing evening for its regulars.

“It struck me how theatrical the whole thing is, with the dancers really getting into the spirit of the thing,” said Barrie.

“Some people were in authentic Western gear, including holsters and Smith and Wesson replicas, but I didn’t see any shoot outs!

“In fact most of the people were there just for the music, the beer and the friendly atmosphere.”

Dancin’ In Line is set in the fictional Green Dragon pub at the weekly line dancing event and follows eight members of it’s line dancing club - folk who love to strut their stuff and slap some leather. The show features some great Country and Western standards, such as Achey Breaky Heart and Dolly Parton’s Nine to Five, sung by members of the cast.

Tickets for the show are £7.50 for adults and £3 for children and are available from Bridlington Blinds and Curtains, at the top of Bridge Street.
