AN RAF Sea King helicopter, with Free Press staff on board, was forced to complete an emergency landing at Bridlington coastguard station after experiencing gearbox trouble.
The rescue helicopter had been completing training manoeuvres over the North Sea around ten miles from the coast.
The craft's monitoring system detected a foreign piece of metal in the gearbox area, forcing the crew to abandon further training missions and complete an emergency landing near Limekiln Lane.
Photographer Paul Atkinson and reporter Alexa Copeland had been on the helicopter for a feature about the crew's work.
It was initially feared that the helicopter would have to land at the Links golf course but it made it to the station and engineers were despatched from RAF Leconfield to investigate the problem.
The Sea King was billowing with smoke upon landing but was repaired within an hour before being flown straight back to base for further mechanical investigations.
