A TEENAGE cyclist had to be airlifted to hospital after he was hit by a car which crashed through a garden wall and came to a halt on a driveway.
The 16-year-old, who suffered neck, shoulder and head injuries, was cycling along St Mary's Walk when he was in collision with a blue Nissan Micra.

The Micra then crashed through a garden wall half way along the road and ended up on the driveway of a semi-detached house.

It was initially thought the teenager's condition was life-threatening and he was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary on Wednesday.

By Thursday his condition was described as stable, and the following day he was discharged.

The accident happened at 2.09pm last Wednesday and police closed the road until 6pm.

The driver of the car was not thought to be injured.

A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been released on police bail.

A resident, who did not want to be named, said there was a problem with speeding motorists on the road and had asked the council for traffic calming measures, especially to slow down drivers who take the sharp corner too fast at the top of the road by the college.

Coun Ray Allerston said: "I think it is a dangerous road and it does need looking at, there is no doubt about it, especially when we get the new college which will attract more people.

"It's probably a good idea to wait and see what is being done at the college."

A spokesman for East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: "The road doesn't have a very bad collision record. There has only been one injury recorded in the last five years.

"Another big issue is the moving of the college. We are looking at where the entrance and exit should be so there is no point doing something now."
