Young cricketers show potential
FLAMBOROUGH'S teenage wicketkeeper is clocking up the miles as he continues to represent the White Rose county
John Major made his latest appearance for Yorkshire B's under 15's team in a two-day game against Cleveland at Massam last week.
He kept wicket in one session and made 29 in the second innings as his side chased a target of over 250 in just 35 overs.
Having already played at Preston, Massam and Nawton Grange earlier in the week, he was back in Flamborough on Saturday, keeping wicket for the first team and scoring 37 in their defeat to Cloughton.
This week, Major has been playing at a cricket festival at Amplethorpe, against county sides from Essex, Durham and Cambridgeshire, amongst others.
His grandad Bob Major said: "To get to where he has, he's done really well.
"We must praise Headlands School as well because they have been super about releasing him for these games."
He began as a junior under Ken Towse's coaching at Bridlington Cricket Club, before moving to Scarborough to play at under 13 level.
He has captained Scarborough's under 15 side and represented their district's Lords Taverners side.
Meanwhile, two Sewerby youngsters, Matt Faulkner and Jay Mitchinson-Singh have been called up for East Yorkshire Lords Taverners U13, Matt in the starting 11 and Jay as team reserve.
