On a cold, wet and windy day on the cliff-top, Sewerby 2nds entertained Wold Newton with both teams looking for their first win of the season.
Wold Newton won the toss and elected to field first.
Sewerby 2nds started strongly when they got to 30/0 after eight overs and were not looking in trouble. But tight bowling from Oliver West, with figures of 1-33 off 15 overs, allowed Holtby to take two wickets in two balls at the other end.
This brought Cameron Rusbridge Burns (23) to the crease and he made a good stand with Ian Dennis (41) which kept Wold Newton quiet.
The drinks breaks saw a wicket fall and the bowlers’ tails went up.
With wickets falling at regular intervals, Sewerby 2nds fell to 128 all out with the pick of the bowlers being Knaggs, who took 4-13 off seven overs.
After a slow start in reply, Wold Newton took their time but kept wickets in hand as they opened with a 51 partnership between Southwell (30) and Hogg (37).
Accurate bowling from Searby eventually got the breakthrough and tight bowling from Vince O’Grady kept the scoring down, as he finished with 2-21 off 10 overs, but with a small total in sight, Wold Newton reached their target with five wickets remaining.
