VIDEO: Bridlington-Millau Petanque Club gets a new clubhouse

Bridlington-Millau Petanque Club have completed a remarkable clean sweep of the English Petanque Association’s Northern Region Winter and Summer Leagues.

Reigning club champion Aled Jones won the Yorkshire Winter League followed by Ted Beetham being victorious in the Summer League, with Robert Fox finishing third in both.

Combining the overall match wins achieved by Bridlington players, the club came top of the Winter League by a very large margin from runners-up Wetherby and then scored more than double the number of points of their closest rivals Mistral, who originate from Manchester, to also win the Summer League.

These leagues involve members travelling all over the North of England, at their own expense, so it is a very fitting reward that they have brought so much success to our town.

Meanwhile, there was more to celebrate as the club’s new pavilion was given an official opening by the Mayor of Bridlington Coun Terry Dixon on Saturday.

For the past two or three years, the club had faced the prospect of their old pavilion either falling down or being blown away, but thanks to a superb effort by all the members and the generosity of Hawthorn Caravan Park, it has acquired a static caravan.

The removal of the old pavilion, landscaping and modification of the caravan was all carried out by members.

Chairman Christine Cann said: “We would want to thank our sponsors Murray Hills, Spencer’s Auction Rooms, The Hawthorns Caravan Park and Bridlington Town Council for their support.

“We would like to remind readers that we continue to play petanque throughout the winter.”
