Bridlington 1sts 157 beat Harrogate 2nds 103 by 54 runs
York Senior League Division One
THE visitors won the toss and chose to bowl first. They soon had the home team in trouble with quick wickets to leave the score on 25/3.
Nick Tennant joined Casey Rudd and they took the score to 71 with Rudd playing positively against good bowling from Griffin and Stanworth.
After Tennant was out for 11, Richard Lount and Steve Janney, helped Rudd put together partnerships of 31 and 32 respectively.
As Rudd was reaching his century three more quick wickets went down.
When the Brid opener was out for a brilliant 97 he was the ninth wicket to fall and the home team were eventually bowled out in the 47th over for 157.
The successful visiting bowlers were Stanworth 5-63 from 23 overs and Griffin 5-43.
Bridlington took to the field for the second innings knowing this was a key game that they needed to win.
Early wickets were in order and they got off to a great start when the visiting captain was bowled for one by Sam Edmundson in his first over.
The same bowler then removed the next five Harrogate batmen to decimate the top order and leave them on 49/6 from 18 overs.
Baines came to the crease and was the only batsmen to make any contribution for the away team putting together a useful 40.
The visitors were never really in the hunt for victory and the spin twins of Rudd and Janney were introduced to the attack.
Rudd bowled economically giving Janney with 3-18 the opportunity to attack the batsmen and he cleaned up the tail with the aid of Ian Shipley with three stumpings who continued his great form with the gloves.
Harrogate were finally all out for 103 with Edmundson claiming 6-44.
