Beckett League Division A
THIS local derby fixture was one of just a few to survive the weather on yet another wet Saturday afternoon.
Both captains knew that it was a day where the bowlers would have the upper hand so it was no surprise that on losing the toss the hosts were invited to take first knock.
They made steady progress with Chris Briggs (28), Rob Atkin (38) and Shaun Acton (24) all making valuable contributions as the Bridlington bowlers took full advantage of the conditiions, Peter Bowtell’s excellent spell of 5-28 helping to restrict Sewerby to a mediocre score of 141 for 8 in their 45 overs.
Bridlington’s reply never looked assured with the evergreen Mark Pallister with 5-16 and the ever-improving Dom Warters 4-39 dominating proceedings, and with the assistance of some excellent fielding rattled the visitors all out for 74.
A much needed win for Sewerby as both teams find themselves at the wrong end of the table.
