SEARCH IS ON FOR SUNDERLANDS SUPERFAN!

They may have "By far the greatest team...." but who is Sunderlands greatest fan

The hunt is on to find the greatest red and white supporter of them all to be remembered in the newly created FA Premier League Hall of Fame. And Sunderland Football Club has asked Echo readers to help in the search to find a worthy candidate to nominate. The Hall of Fans will be one of five major themed ares to be created in the new tourist attraction which is set to open to the public on June 12 at County Hall, opposite the Houses of Parliament. It will showcase the history and culture of the football fan from the past to the present day, highlighting the obsession, rituals and passion of devoted club supporters. The area will feature a Wall of Fans for which football clubs will select two fans, one famous, one not so famous who will be inducted by having a plaster handcast taken and mounted alongside each other on the Wall.So far several famous names from the world of sport, showbusiness and music are ready to take their place in football folklore.Among the celebrities already nominated are John Parrott (Everton), David Essex (West Ham), Mick Hucknall (Man United), Robson Greene (Newcastle) and Robert Lindsay (Derby County)So will be Sunderlands representatives?I reckon world record-breaking runner Steve Cram will be the early favourite out in front as most likely celebrity to be nominated but I havent got a clue who will be the ordinary fan most worthy of being immortalised. If you have any suggestions as to which fan Sunderland should put forward to the Hall of Fame send a letter and details to Hall of Fame Search, Sports Desk, Sunderland Echo, Pennywell Industrial Estate, Pennywell, Sunderland SR4 9ER.We will pass on all entries to Sunderland Football Club and publish details of the winners in the Echo later this summer.`THEY may have "By far the greatest team.... but who is Sunderlands greatest fan?The hunt is on to find the greatest red and white supporter of them all to be remembered in the newly created FA Premier League Hall of Fame. If you have any suggestions as to which fan Sunderland should put forward to the Hall of Fame send a letter and details to Hall of Fame Search, Sports Desk, Sunderland Echo, Pennywell Industrial Estate, Pennywell, Sunderland SR4 9ER.We will pass on all entries to Sunderland Football Club and publish details of the winners in the Echo later this summer.
