Sewerby entertained last season’s Premier Division runners-up Clifton Alliance on the cliff-top on Saturday.
Skipper Ben Dobson won the toss and asked Clifton to take first knock. They made steady progress but the a burst of three wickets in seven balls from Russ Robinson reduced them to 28/3 after nine overs.
Clifton skipper John Gilham took the attack to Sewerby but he was out for a quick 37 with the score at 62/5.
Tight bowling by Robinson and Aidy Long coupled with keen fielding and good catching kept Sewerby well on top and another three wickets in 14 balls from Robinson saw Clifton all out for 104 after 29 overs.
Robinson took 7-46 from his 15 overs and Aidy Long 3-53 from 13 overs.
Dobson and Luke Jennison put on 57 for the first wicket to set Sewerby well on the way to victory before Jennison was out to the first ball from spinner Alex Renton for 28.
A run out and three more wickets for Renton saw the next four Sewerby batsmen score two runs between them but Ricky Robinson joined Dobson and stability was restored.
Dobson continued to bat beautifully, hitting the winning runs with a six towards Sewerby Hall. He finished with a fine 61 not out and Robinson 7 not out as Sewerby claimed a very impressive victory by five wickets with 19 overs to spare.
