Portrait of Sir Leonard Hutton comes home to Yorkshire
It is seventy years since Sir Len Hutton eclipsed Wally Hammond (336*) and Donald Bradman (334) to achieve the highest individual score by a batsman in a Test match. He scored 364 in the final Test against Australia in 1938 at the Oval'.
The YCCC Archive Committee is marking this anniversary with an exhibition of Hutton memorabilia in the East Stand Long Room at Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground. A portrait of Sir Leonard, which has been on display in the Long Room at Lord's for many years, will also return to Yorkshire for display in the Executive Suite of the old pavilion at Headingley Carnegie.
The portrait is owned by Len's sons, Richard and John Hutton, to whom the Committee is much indebted for arranging the loan.
The picture will be unveiled in the Long Room by Richard and John Hutton at 10am tomorrow (Wednesday). Two of Sir Leonard's grandchildren will also be present at the ceremony.
