Plenty of firsts for young swimmers

BRIDLINGTON Swimming Club competed in the first friendly League Gala of 2010 hosted by Driffield. The gala provided some excellent swimming and lots of exciting finishes.

The 9&U girls, Emme Sandbach, Maya Bentley, Katie Nicholson and Ellie Hughes put in some good times to win their medley relay and take second place in the freestyle race.

Megan Pattison, Rebecca Keyworth, Katie Haynes and Sarah Witty swam in the 11&U and blasted into 1st place in both their relays. Sarah won her butterfly event.

Maisie Banks, swimming in her first team gala, won the individual freestlye.

Tori Dickinson took first position in the breaststroke then teamed up with Charlotte Hornsey and Sarah Witty to win the 13&U medlay relay and take a close second in the freestyle team race.

The open age girls swam superbly taking the winning position in both relays. The team members were Jodie Marsh, Maria Hornsey, Rebecca Smith and Sarah Holmes, who also won the open freestyle.

James Cawkill, swimming in his first gala, Jack Cowell, James Frankish and Kyle McKenna swam to second place in the 9&U freestyle relay. Jack won the individual freestyle.

The 11&U boys swam really well winning the freestyle race. In the individual races Brandon Lino won the backstroke and Tom King the butterfly. Thomas Holehouse and Matthew Cawkill made up this swimming quartet.

The 13&U team of Christopher Smith, Wayne Oakley, Tom King and James Holehouse put up a good show to gain a creditable second place in the freestyle relay. James won the breastroke race.

In the boys open events Philip Ansell and Daniel Sewell were supported by two of the younger age group, Wayne Oakley and James Holehouse, to take second position in both team relays. Daniel won the freestyle race.

The whole team must be congratulated on their super performance.

Lots of personal best times were recorded.

Many thanks to the parents who helped with official duties.

Bridlington came second to Pocklington in the final positions.
