Temperatures dip for Road Runners’ anniversary race

IT WAS bitterly cold on Bridlington seafront for the Anniversary Three Mile race and Handicap on Sunday but at least the course was not covered in snow as it was last year.
The morning got under way with the Juniors Handicap race which was won by Riley Potts in a handicap time of 16:38.
However, the fastest time belonged to Harvey Frank, who completed the course in an actual time of 11:29.
Others taking part were (actual time in brackets): Ted Wray 16:50 (15:25), Declan Potts 17:45 (15:05), Imogen Hayhurst 18:29 (14:19), Kirsten Porter 18:42 (16:42), Harvey Frank 18:59 (11:29), Rebekah Pratley 20:04 (14:14), Ashley Porter 20:11 (12:11) and Shaun Foster 20:30 (12:30).
THE senior race is run as a sealed handicap which means that everyone starts together and the handicaps are not revealed until the race has finished.
Celebrating his birthday, Shaun Pickering led the pack home in a time of 16:53 over the three-mile course.
Next in was Nick Hellewell in 17:42 followed by John Nolan with 18:49.
Leading the women home was Emma Brown who recorded a time of 19:43.
She was followed by Cathy Wood with 19:53 and Sarah Wood in 20:41.
Sarah Wood also won the Ladies Handicap with a handicap time of 19:11. Winner of the Men’s Handicap was Stuart Atkinson with a handicap time of 15:47.
Other people who took part, and all ran well in very blustery conditions, were (handicap time in brackets): Andy Baker 19:13 (16:43), Kevin Lewis 22:53 (19:14), Ashley Porter 23:09 (-), Karon Colley 22:23 (21:23), Janet Potter 23:41 (20:41), Gavin Wood (guest) 23:42 (-), Ben Smith 24:33 (16:33), Martin Smith 24:44 (22:14), Stuart Atkinson 24:47 (15:47), Bob Eyre 25:04 (19:14), Michelle Rollinson 25:35 (20:35) and Amanda Tindall 29:45 (19:45).
THE Anniversary Three Mile race was also the last race in the Winter League and the overall winners were Andy Baker with 146 points and Amanda Tindall with 54 points.
Meltham 10K: January 27
LAST Sunday Nick Hellewell travelled to Meltham, near Huddersfield to run in the local 10K race.
The course is very hilly and there were also very strong windy conditions to contend with so he was pleased with his time of 40:09 to finish in 10th place.
Sewerby Parkrun 5K: February 2
SATURDAY was also a bit breezy at Sewerby and there was the occasional shower of sleet but this did not put off a contingent of Bridlington runners at the morning Parkrun.
Andy Baker, who looks stronger each time he runs, finished in second place with a PB time of 20:35.
Next home was Kevin Sissons in sixth position with 22:06 and, making a return to Sewerby, Dave Playforth was seventh in 22:45.
Junior runner Ashley Porter put in a personal best time of 23:52, completing the course in 10th position and another junior, Ben Smith, was not too far behind in 25:58 to finish 12th.
Stuart Atkinson, is starting to look fit again after his recent injury, and finished 13th in 26:04. He was followed by Mark Loft who was 19th in 27:18.
The Bridlington team was completed by Kirsten Porter 26th (32:14) and Amanda Tindall 27th (32:15).
Hull Parkrun 5K: February 2
