Stabler through to semis

Zac Stabler

Zac Stabler

ZAC Stabler’s bid to become National Schoolboy champion continues, but his team mate Aaron Boyes bowed out of the competition at the quarter final stage.

Both Bridlington ABC members travelled to Everton last weekend to box, having become Yorkshire champions last month.

Stabler had to wait until the final bout of the day to get his chance.

He ended up boxing John Stokes of Crewe ABC after his original opponent James Mellor pulled out.

Stabler struggled to get going early on as Stokes kept grabbing hold of him and a low scoring first round finished 1-1.

The second round was much of the same with Stokes holding on all the time. Stabler managed to start forcing himself away only for Stokes to grab on again.

The scores were level at 2-2 at the end of the second round.

The final round saw stokes finally get a warning for holding on. Stabler managed to really put pressure on the Crewe boxer during the last round to which Stokes had no reply and Stabler won 6-3

Boyes boxed in the under 50kg class 3 category and faced Bradley Strand from Kirkby ABC in Liverpool.

in the first round, Boyes couldn’t get his feet right, he was off balance going forward giving Strand some easy scoring shots.

It was not a good round for the Bridlington boxer and by the end of the round he was already 6-1 down.

Boyes upped the work rate more in the second round and managed to start scoring some shots, however Strand was working with him scoring well as well.

They drew the second round 4-4 still leaving Boyes five points adrift going into the last round.

Boyes knew there was a lot to do and really went to town in the last round.

Strand began to tire and Boyes carried on going. He won the last round 5-2 but it wasnt enough to pull back the deficit of the first round.

Strand won with a final score of 12-10.

Bridlington’s third Yorkshire champion Kier Herrgesell received a bye into the semi-finals
