Run celebrates its first birthday

SEWERBY Hall saw a great turnout of 54 runners of all ages and abilities for its 52nd ParkRun, marking a year since the event was up and ‘running’.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s chairman Coun Chad Chadwick and his wife, and fellow councillor, Margaret, were on hand to wish Sewerby Parkrun a very happy first birthday.

Paul Silvester, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Sport, Play and Arts Service Community Sports Coach, said: “Since our first run on November 5, 2011, it has been fantastic to see such a great group of people, young and old, come together and take part in this fantastic weekly event.

“There was a great atmosphere with a great turnout of at least 75 people, including runners, volunteers and families, some coming just to watch.

“With the council’s chairman, Coun Chad Chadwick, in attendance the event got off to a great start with the chairman setting the runners off from the start line.

“After the run, tea, coffee and cake was provided for all at the finish line from the Orangery.

“This was a lovely touch by the fantastic team of volunteers and by Sewerby Hall and Gardens. As always, a massive thank you goes to them.

“With the new route in place and underway we are looking forward to another great year of running with possibly a slightly faster course. So whether you want to use it to train, get you into running or just have a run taking in the scenery, come and see us on Saturday mornings at 9am.”

Sewerby Hall and Gardens provides a spectacular venue that certainly offers an iconic and challenging route and was the first stately home in the country to take part in this worldwide event.
