THE Yorkshire SA Winter Competition 2012 was held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, bringing together swimmers from all over the county.
They had already proved their worth by gaining times set by the organising body.
These qualification standards are not easy to gain and to achieve them requires around 10 hours swimming plus land training each week to become an exceptional swimmer with style and stamina.
Bridlington Swimming Club had eight dedicated members who have reached this standard in some or all of the four major strokes.
The big Yorkshire clubs, Leeds, Sheffield, Doncaster send several dozen swimmers and some of the girls’ events have over 100 taking part.
The large groups, all in their club colours, can create an intimidating atmosphere on the poolside but Bridlington swimmers were not daunted.
It raised their game and all produced personal best times, some by a considerable amount, in almost every swim. All had at least one outstanding event.
Edward Dennis, youngest of the Bridlington swimmers swam 50m backstroke and freestyle. He took three seconds off his backstroke time.
Rose Dennis had a good weekend all round. 100m Breaststroke (-3), 100m backstroke (-2) achieveing the North Eastern Time that enables her to compete in events all over the North East, 200m individual medley 3rd. 100m freestyle (-5).
