THE Bridlington Open Pairs on October 14 drew an excellent turnout from clubs across Yorkshire in unfortunately quite wet conditions.
However, the inclement weather did not dampen the spirits of local players who managed to secure all top four prize placings.
This annual event, kindly sponsored by Murray Hills Solicitors, was played in a really competitive fashion, which meant the standard of play was often very high.
Aled Jones of the Bridlington-Millau Pétanque Club enjoyed a superb day, winning all six of his games to take the top spot, and setting a new record of two consecutive titles at this tournament.
His partner for the day, like the previous year, was York Railway Institute’s Angie Gaughan.
Unquestionably, the Bridlington members were able to benefit from home advantage and they also finished in second, third and fourth positions, through Malcolm Oates and Beryl Hartley, Peter Thompson and Chris O’Rourke, and Maurice Fidoe and Angela Fletcher (The Fox PC).
Chairperson Christine Cann expressed her thanks to Keith Murray for sponsoring the day’s event before inviting the winners to attend the Murray Hills office on King Street for a formal prize presentation.
The summer boules season is now drawing to a close and members will soon be taking part in winter league competitions. For pétanque information contact Christine Cann on 678278.
