Boxing duo set for quarter finals
TWO OF Bridlington’s three Yorkshire schoolboy boxing champions head to Merseyside this weekend in their bid to win national titles.
Aaron Boyes will box Bradley Strand from Kirkby ABC in Liverpool.
Strand is yet to box in the competition due to no other entries in Merseyside and Cheshire at the under 50kg weight group.
Boyes has already boxed three times to become Yorkshire champion giving him some added experience, although with Sunday’s bout being at Everton, Strand will be on home soil.
Zac Stabler will box John Stokes from Crewe ABC., who overcame James Mellor in the Merseyside final.
Mellor was last year’s national champion at a different weight category so Stokes will be a tough opponent.
However, Stabler has himself beaten a previous national champion to get the Yorkshire title so it will be a very interesting contest
The third of Bridlington’s Yorkshire champions, Kier Herrgesell has got a walkover to the semi final as there were no entries into his weight group in the north west.
The national semi finals will be held on February 19.
