BRIDLINGTON ABC boxers won six of their 10 bouts as the club held its latest show at the Spa last Friday.

packed Royal Hall enjoyed a thrilling evening of action, with several of the home fighters giving impressive performances.

Youngsters Harvey Rowe, Billy Gibson, Liam Bowtell, Aaron Boyes, Tom Hebden and Kier Herrgesell all got verdicts from the judges.

Head coach Damien Grant said: “I was very pleased with how all the boxers performed.

“They all had tough contests once again and rose to the occasion. The event once again seemed well supported so thanks to all who attended and the show sponsors.”

Darren Boyes was unable to box due to him being selected to go for trials with the England team the next day. He is through to the national quarter finals of the CYP Championships this weekend in Manchester.

His brother Aaron found himself in the strange position of being up against an opponent at The Spa, who had been a team-mate in the England Select squad a week earlier.

He and Josh Clarke had been part of the team who took on Australia at the Bonus Arena in Hull but they went head-to-head at the Spa, with the Bridlington boxer getting a unanimous decision.

“His fitness showed through and as his opponent began to tire Boyes began to score more effectively,” said Grant.

Ben Cunningham, boxing for his regiment 3 Para, was unable to win on his return to the ring, a decade after his last contest in Bridlington.

He was beaten by Scarborough’s Jamie Scotter.
