Mark Woodley won the opening event of the Bridlington Cycling Club season with time to spare as he set the standard for this year.

A strong ride from Mel Blackford placed him second, with Martin Cockerill completing the top three. Richard Bennett rode to a personal best time to claim top spot in Division Two.

Woodley made it two wins from two races at the Thwing 10, giving him his best ever start to a season.

Blackford was second again but looks to be closing the gap between them.

Thwing 10: 1. Mark Woodley 22:21, 2: Mel Blackford 22:26, 3: Andy Askwith 22:40, 4: Simon Walters 23:01, 5: Martin Cockerill 23:31, 6: Matt Pilling 24:06, 7: Richard Bennett 24:37, 8: Brian Parling 24:52, 9: Adam Yates 25:24, 10: Ethan Newman 25:29, 11: Kay Walters 32:29

Strong winds provided difficult conditions for last Tuesday evening’s Haisthorpe 10 and it was no surprise that the club’s bigger riders had the most success.

Blackford claimed his first win of the season but was pushed to his limit by the fast-improving Askwith who took second place.
