Members of Westgate bowled for their Pilmoor Cup, a singles competition held in memory of CF Pilmoor, the late father of Betty Catt, one of Westgate’s long-standing honorary members.
On a cool, overcast day, the bowling was intense from the start, with the two preliminary games being highly competitive.
In no time, the tournament had reached the quarter-final stage, where P Watts beat M Long 21-15, J Smith beat K Walters 21-10, N Gordon overcame E Steele 21-10 and A Cheetham had an epic struggle with W Braithwaite, taking the honours 21-18.
After a short break, the semi finals got underway with Cheetham having another strong tussle this time with Gordon, which he again won 21-18.
In the other semi final the short interlude didn’t seem to do Smith any favours as she struggled to stay in contention with Watts, who had been very consistent from the start of the competition. Watts went on to win the game 21-7.
The final produced some excellent bowling with never more than three points in it. After 32 ends, Watts finally ran out the winner, beating Cheetham 21-19.
