Bridlington Road Runners athlete Phill Taylor won the annual Mucky Duck multi-terrain race at Driffield for the fifth time in six years.
It gave him a double cause for celebration as the previous day he had also won the Humberside 5000m Track Championship at the Costello Track in Hull in a time of 16:06:6.
Taylor, a sub-2:30 marathon runner and winner of the first Hull Marathon finished the punishing 8.5 mile course in 51:25 – only four seconds ahead of East Hull Harriers pair Michael Hargreaves and Matthew Hayes.
The Mucky Duck race is an ever popular race for local athletes, but what a difference a year makes. In 2013 runners had to contend with baking hot temperatures.
However, for the 2014 event on Sunday the day was overcast and the rain showers had made the off-road section muddy.
Entries for the race, organised by Driffield Striders, were well down on recent years, with 167 competitors, compared to 214 last year.
Bridlington Ladies won the Team Prize and other prize winners were Nick Hellewell (1st V40), Cathy Wood (2nd lady), Emma Brown (5th lady), Emma Artley (1st LV35) and Michelle Rollinson (2nd LV45).
Other runners taking part for Bridlington were Nick Jordan, Kevin Lewis, Jim Riley, Rick Pullan, Stuart Atkinson, Andrea Parker, Mark Loft, Simon Porter and Amanda Tindall. Becky Clifton unfortunately suffered a fall part way through the race and was unable to continue.
