Yorkshire Badminton League Division Two

The scoreline suggests Leeds won easily, but the Seasiders should be proud of the way they played against the former Division One team who are favourites to go straight back up to the top flight next year.

Bridlington captain Paul Robinson was upbeat after the match.

“I was really proud of the team. In any other circumstance I would be gutted losing at 12-2, but Leeds are a very good team and to make them work as hard as we did was a credit to our team.

“Clare Park and Helen Brice won a ladies game 22-20 21-18 and myself and Nigel Fell won a men’s 21-14 21-23 21-18 and we took their number one pair to three games losing 21-11 19-21 21-15.”

Robinson and Park lost in three games in the mixed section, 21-19 18-21 6-21, while in match four Ed Fox and Jo Robinson played well only to lose 19-21 21-16 8 -21.

Robinson added: “Leeds were a good team and will probably win the league and it’s nice to know we gave them a match.”
