Bridlington Tennis Club members Howard Robinson and Keren Miller were the winners of the Centenary Plate Mixed Doubles Tournament this week.
Despite fewer than expected entries from other clubs, 10 pairs took part in the competition, which was sponsored by West BS and overseen by Jim Tanner and Barry Beckett.
The final pitched Robinson and Miller against an accomplished and experienced couple from Beverley, Steve and Emma Higgins, but the Bridlington duo came out on top after a hard-fought encounter.
Dr Anthony Clarke, club president, said: “A pleasing number of club members, including Gill Bapty and Barry Beckett, two of our honorary vice-presidents, supported participants and reminisced about past similarly successful grass court tournaments.
“I wish to thank our coach John Ashton for suggesting the Centenary Plate Tournament and to thank the grounds team, under the supervision of Carol Bickerdike, who have worked very hard to improve the quality of the grass courts over recent weeks.”
The club also thanked Chris West of West BS, who sponsored the plates and trophies for the finalists.
Following the success of this tournament, the club is now looking forward to its Finals Day on Saturday.
