On Sunday, 64 bowlers competed in the East Yorkshire Singles Merit at Westgate Bowling Club.
The competition started at 10am in damp and drizzly conditions, but this did not deter the bowler’s enthusiasm. It didn’t take long for them to get into their stride with some very close encounters taking place.
Eventually the sun came out and by 4pm, the quarter finals had been finished. G Watson beat J Cooper 21-10, D Swift beat L Boyles 21-18, D Clark beat M Hill 21-6 and S Dover beat R Hipgrave 21-12.
In their fifth match of the day, Swift beat Watson 21-8 and Dover beat Clark 21-18.
By the time the event was were down to the final two bowler, there had been eight hours of excellent bowling and the final was not to be an exception.
With his Whitby team mates encouraging him from the sidelines Dover matched Swift for the first part of the final, but eventually Swift got the upper hand and went on to win 21-13.
