Bridlington’s Yorkshire League second team ended their season in style with two wins

Jack Torbett was the key man again as he won all three of his matches in the 6-3 victory over Clifton B.

Ian Simms was picked because of a lack of availability from regular players. He tried his heart out and made the step up to Yorkshire League level with ease, winning one of his three matches, 21-12 21-15 alongside Torbett.

The team followed that up with a 5-4 win over Ripon. It was a really close match, with Mark Stanley and Leo Yong being the stars, claiming all three of their matches.

Stanley is so dedicated, coming all the way from Milton Keynes to play for Bridlington, while Yong has improved as the season as gone on. He has a lot of ability and hopefully in years to come will improve even more.

The ladies lost all their games but the second team finished in a respectable mid-table slot in their first season playing in Division Three.

Squad: J Torbett, M Stanley L Yong, J Beadnall, M Hoggard, W Goode, I Simms, J Mitchell.

Priory One have won the first division of the Bridlington Badminton Manchester League for the seventh season in a row. They won the league by 38 points from Northcliffe One.

The Priory team were dominant all season, even though BBC and Northcliffe pushed them in their games. What separated Priory from their challengers was the consistenc, shown by the team of Paul Robinson, Jack Torbett, Ian Kitching, Kate Manson, Jo Robinson and Emma Richardson.

Northcliffe B won Division Two by 50 points, an impressive performance by them. In second place were Priory C.

The league’s presentation night is on June 1 at the Old Man’s Yacht Club from 7pm until 11.30pm. Tickets are £6, please let Paul, Jo or Nigel know if you are going.
